Bobble Stitch

Intermediate Textured

A raised cluster of partially worked double crochets closed together in one stitch, similar to popcorn stitch but slightly softer.

Work to the stitch where the pattern calls for a bobble.
Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, then yarn over and draw through the first two loops only — 2 loops remain. This is one unfinished double crochet.
Repeat the previous step in the same stitch 3-4 more times, leaving each unfinished stitch's last loop on the hook, until you have 5-6 loops on your hook total.
Yarn over and draw through all the loops on your hook at once to close the bobble.
Chain 1 to anchor the bobble in place, then continue in pattern.

A bobble is essentially a cluster worked entirely into one stitch instead of spread across several — that's the main thing that tells the two techniques apart.
The small anchoring chain after closing keeps the bobble from flopping over before the next row locks it in place.
Working bobbles on the wrong-side row and letting them push through to the right side is a common trick for making them pop more prominently.
