The shortest, densest basic crochet stitch — a firm, tightly woven fabric good for anything that needs structure.
Instructions
- Insert your hook into the next stitch (or chain).
- Yarn over and draw a loop back through — two loops now sit on your hook.
- Yarn over again and draw through both loops on the hook, leaving one loop remaining.
- Move to the next stitch and repeat.
Tips & Notes
- Single crochet fabric is dense enough that stuffing won't show through it easily — a common choice for amigurumi.
- Keep an eye on the last stitch of the row; it's easy to skip by accident since it sits right at the turn.
- A single crochet foundation row is worked into the chain's V or back bump — pick one and stay consistent for an even edge.
