Textured Stitch
Basketweave Stitch
Used For
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Sweaters
- Textured panels
Blocks of knit and purl stitches arranged to mimic a woven basket texture.
Instructions
- Cast on a multiple of 8 stitches, plus edge stitches if desired.
- Rows 1-4: *Knit 4, purl 4; repeat from * to the end.
- Rows 5-8: *Purl 4, knit 4; repeat from * to the end — this shifts the blocks over by 4 stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1-8 for the desired length.
Tips & Notes
- The "weave" illusion comes purely from the blocks alternating position every 4 rows — there's no actual interlacing.
- Basketweave lies flatter than stockinette alone, since the alternating blocks balance out the fabric's tendency to curl.
- Swap the block size (for example, knit 3 / purl 3 over a 6-row repeat) to make a tighter or looser woven look.
