The UK-pattern name for the US 'seed stitch' texture — same fabric, different regional term.
Instructions
- Cast on an even number of stitches.
- Row 1: *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to the end.
- Row 2: *Purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to the end — knit the purls and purl the knits from the row below.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for the desired length.
Tips & Notes
- This is the same fabric as the US "seed stitch" — only the name changes crossing the Atlantic, so don't hunt for a different technique.
- UK patterns also have a "double moss stitch" (sometimes "Irish moss stitch"), worked over 4 rows instead of 2 — that one is a genuinely different, more ridged texture.
- If a UK pattern just says "moss stitch" with no further note, it means the same k1p1-alternating fabric as seed stitch.
