A grid of raised ridges that forms a waffle-textured fabric, good for cozy blankets.
Instructions
- Cast on a multiple of 4 stitches, plus 3.
- Row 1 (RS): Purl all stitches.
- Row 2 (WS): Knit 3, *purl 1, knit 3; repeat from * to the end.
- Row 3: Purl 3, *knit 1, purl 3; repeat from * to the end.
- Row 4: Knit all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1-4 for the desired length.
Tips & Notes
- The grid of raised squares comes from the small purl bumps in rows 2 and 3 sitting inside a knit-framed box — the contrast in stitch height is what reads as "waffle."
- This pattern lies fairly flat, thanks to the balance of knits and purls across each repeat.
- Waffle stitch is a popular washcloth pattern specifically because the raised texture adds a bit of natural scrubbing power.
